The Interfaith Legal Advisers Network

Sixth Meeting (May 2012)

The sixth meeting of the Interfaith Legal Advisers Network took place on Monday 14 May 2012 at the offices of Devonshires Solicitors, 30 Finsbury Circus, London. The theme for the event was: 'Religion and the Reform of Marriage Law'.

The focus of discussion was the Government Equalities Office 'Equal civil marriage: consultation' (March 2012) which set out proposals with regard to marriage, civil partnerships, gender recognition, and consequential issues. The event opened with a paper by Frank Cranmer, of the Centre for Law and Religion at Cardiff Law School, and ILAN members offered their own concerns about the government proposals from their particular religious perspectives.

The first of its kind in the UK, the Interfaith Legal Advisers Network (ILAN) was established by Cardiff Law School’s Centre of Law and Religion in December 2007. The Network seeks to facilitate an ongoing discussion providing members with a greater understanding of their respective religious legal systems and the common legal issues they face.
