Interfaith Legal Advisers Network Third Meeting

The first of its kind in the UK, the Interfaith Legal Adviser Network was established by Cardiff Law School’s Centre of Law and Religion in December 2007. The Network seeks to facilitate an ongoing discussion providing members with a greater understanding of their respective religious legal systems and the common legal issues they face.
The third meeting will take place on Monday 19 January 2009 and we have been very fortunate in securing a room at Lambeth Palace, London through the generosity of the Archbishop of Canterbury and his staff.
The topic for the event will be Religious Courts and Tribunals, particularly within the context of the Arbitration Act. We are pleased that Professor Bernard Jackson of Manchester University, a leading scholar on Jewish law, has agreed to speak at the meeting.
Attendance is by invitation only since space is limited and we need to secure a broad range of representation from all religious communities.
Each participant will present a brief paper dealing with the existence of courts and tribunals within their particular religion and outlining practice, procedure and enforcement, appending relevant documents. These papers should be submitted by the end of the year so that they can be circulated in advance of the meeting.
