John Cooper QC practises at 25 Bedford Row in London. His practice focuses on serious crime including murder, serious violence, drug trafficking, terrorism, human rights and media, as well as sports regulation and inquest work including Judicial Review.
Called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1983 and the Australian Bar in 1989, Mr Cooper spent a period of time working for Clifford Chance in London. He is a member of The Observer and The Times Law Panels and has also been appointed to the influential legal think tank established by Lexis Nexis.
Described by The Times as "a rising star of the Criminal Bar", John Cooper QC's writing work spans television, theatre, academic, journalism and leading text books, with a broadcasting career including a six part Channel 4 series "Teens on Trial". He was most recently seen presenting BBC television's "Mindfield".
A keen supporter of the Cardiff Law School Pro bono Scheme, in 2008 he received a citation from Lord Bingham at the Bar Conference for his own Pro Bono work. He was also shortlisted for the Liberty, Justice and Law Society's Human Rights Barrister of the Year Award for 2008.
Mr Cooper's more recent association with Cardiff Law School arose through his involvement in the research project into Quality Assurance for Advocates.
