Consultant appointment for Norman Doe

Jan 2008

In January 2008 Norman Doe was appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, as a consultant to the Anglican Communion Covenant Design Group. The Group is to draft a covenant for adoption by the 44 churches of the worldwide Anglican Communion and its 80 million members. Gregory Cameron, an Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre, is the Group's Secretary. The Group produced its first draft at Nassau in 2007 (for which Professor Doe was a corresponding member), and is about to publish its second draft for consideration by the Lambeth Conference in the summer of 2008, the assembly of all Anglican bishops which meets every ten years. The covenant project, suggested by Norman Doe at a meeting of Anglican Archbishops in the USA in 2001, was recommended by the Lambeth Commission in its Windsor Report (2004). Norman Doe, who was a member of the Lambeth Commission, is to assist the Group on the canonical aspects of the covenant process.
