Christianity and Law: An Introduction

In recent years there has been a renewed interest in the exploration of the internal rules and other regulatory instruments of Christian churches. However, the study of comparative church law has been neglected. This chapter explores the feasibility of comparative religious law from a Christian perspective outlining five issues: (1) the sources and form of church law; (2) the subject matter and scope of church law; (3) the purposes of church law in theology and law; (4) the effect and enforcement of church law; and (5) the relationship between church law and civil law.
