Professor Installed as Chancellor of The Diocese of Bangor

Professor Norman Doe was installed as Chancellor of The Diocese of Bangor in a ceremony at Bangor Cathederal last month.

The Chancellor of the Diocese is the judge of the Diocesan Court and is responsible for adjudicating on the grant of faculties (permissions under Canon Law to carry out works and alterations to church buildings and churchyards administered in the context of the Ecclesiastical Exemption under State Law), a limited range of disciplinary matters, the administration of marriage licences, and conducting (when authorised by the bishop) general visitations of the Diocese.

Professor Doe is Director of the Centre for Law and Religion, which he set up at Cardiff Law School in 1998. His research has contributed directly to the the Principles of Canon Law Common to the Churches of the Anglican Communion (2008), and the Anglican Communion Covenant (2009) which is currently before each church for ratification.
