The Colloquium of Anglican and Roman Catholic Canon Lawyers
The Work and Publications of the Colloquium (1999 -2003)
The first Colloquium was held in Rome 1999 on church property law. It included meetings at the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts, the Rota, and the British Embassy to the Holy See. It resulted in a book: J. Fox (ed), Render Unto Caesar: Church Property in Roman Catholic and Anglican Canon Law (Rome, 2000) with forewords by the Most Revd Walter Kasper and the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Revd George Carey.
The Second Colloquium took place at Windsor Castle 2000 and, at the suggestion of the Archbishop of Canterbury, addressed clergy discipline. The Colloquium was addressed by Sir John Owen, Dean of Arches and the Most Revd Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Wales (now Archbishop of Canterbury). The proceedings were published in M. Hill (ed), Faithful Discipleship: Clergy Discipline in Anglican and Roman Catholic Canon Law (Cardiff, 2001).
The Third Colloquium, Rome 2002, was welcomed by Cardinal Kasper to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, and met representatives of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The colloquium examined the concept of membership and the process of Christian initiation. Its proceedings, along with those of the Fourth Colloquium held in Cardiff 2003, on authority, were published in: J. Conn, N. Doe and J. Fox (eds), Initiation, Membership and Authority in Anglican and Roman Catholic Canon Law (Rome, 2005).
